Features
All-new Engine
Liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve 1,043 cm3 In-line four offers a greater power output and stronger torque than the previous Z1000.
Ergonomic rider and passenger seating
Relatively upright position (compared to supersport models) offers both control and comfort. (Rider triangle is essentially the same as that of the Z1000, with grips moved about 10 mm inward.)
Front radial brakes and petal discs
At the front, 300 mm petal brake discs are gripped by opposed 4-piston radial-mount calipers. Caliper piston size is 30 mm.
Radial-pump front brake master cylinder also contributes to the superb control and feel offered by the calipers.
Inverted Front Forks
41 mm inverted front fork features stepless compression and rebound damping and spring preload adjustability.
Settings offer both sporty performance (contributing to light handling on the street and in the hills) and comfort.
Horizontal Back-link Rear Suspension
Rear suspension positions the shock unit and linkage above the swingarm.
The rear shock features rebound and preload adjustability. A cam-style preload adjuster facilitates making adjustments to suit 2-up riding or luggage.
Exhaust System
The exhaust system features a 4-into-2-pre-chamber-into-2 layout. Silencer end-caps create a quad-style image.
Large-volume Fuel Tank
19 litre fuel tank offers a substantial touring range. Dynamic fuel tank design with tall upper surface features supersport-style flared edges with a trim shape at the rear, a shape that is easy to grip with the knees.
Adjustable Windscreen
Windscreen has three available positions spanning approximately 20¢ª and ranging from sporty to maximum wind protection. Adjustment can be done by hand (no tools required) by depressing the release button below the instrument panel. (Windscreen adjustment should be done with the bike stopped.)
Instrumentation
Sporty instrument panel features a large analogue tachometer and multi-function LCD screen. The design is based on that of the Ninja ZX-6R, but features original font and colouring.
Functions include: speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, odometer, clock, dual trip meters, and warning lamps.
Cool Air System
With the airbox nestled between the frame beams, intake air can be affected by engine heat. The Cool Air system routes cool air to the airbox from ducts at the front of the side fairings, minimising performance loss due to heated intake air. This should not be confused with Ram Air, where force-fed air becomes pressurised in the airbox.

Kawasaki Z1000SX (2010-current)
Loosely based on Kawasaki's excellent Z1000, the SX fits snugly in to the gap between said naked bike and the track orientated ZX-10R, making it a grown-up bike for the real world. The near 140bhp inline four motor gives sporting potential, but creature comforts like a new seat, vibration reduction and additional fairing make it a viable long-distance touring bike. For many riders this is the all round bike they've been waiting for - practical and fun at the same time, and far more eye catching than the competition too.
